Vision

Empowering communities through accessible, preventive, and transformative mental health care that nurtures every life.

Mission

Bridging the mental health gap through prevention, education, and family-centered support.

Mental Break

The Mental Break program is a community-centered, prevention-focused mobile mental health initiative developed in collaboration with the Jacksonville Arts and Music School (JAMS) and Imperfectly Perfect Counseling Services (IPCS). At the heart of this initiative is the arts, which play a vital role in promoting mental health. They provide young people with healthy outlets for emotional expression, self-discovery, and connection. Designed to meet the growing demand for accessible early intervention and behavioral health support, this program empowers families, children, and adolescents to build resilience, develop emotional intelligence, and enhance self-regulation skills.

Young people don’t always have the words to express their emotions, but their behaviors—disruptive, withdrawn, or unpredictable—constantly communicate their internal struggles. At Mental Break, we recognize that behavior is never random; it’s purposeful. Each child’s journey is unique, and our program supports both prevention and healing, whether from everyday stressors or significant trauma.

Research underscores that early screening and treating behavioral health issues improve long-term outcomes. However, a national and statewide shortage of child and adolescent mental health providers continues to create critical access gaps.

Mobile Mental Health Prevention Mock Up

There is a critical gap in accessible, preventive mental health services for children, adolescents, and their families, especially in underserved communities where stigma and limited resources persist. Mental Break addresses this need by transforming a bus into a mobile, interactive, hands-on mental health space, directly bringing workshops, technology-based activities, and practical tools into neighborhoods.

Culturally Responsive

Many families face long wait times and limited access to care, often turning to overwhelmed community systems. By offering prevention-first, family-centered resources, Mental Break empowers parents, strengthens the parent-child bond, and reduces the strain on traditional services. This innovative mobile approach makes mental wellness approachable, proactive, and community-rooted, paving the way for a more supportive and stigma-free future.

Holistic Model

By fostering family collaboration and reducing stigma, Mental Break helps normalize mental health conversations, build emotional awareness, and ensure that small struggles aren’t lifelong challenges. We aim to help children and families bloom, shine, and grow—even when “life lifes.”
